Goree to malutka wysepka oddalona o 20 minut /3 km/ od Dakaru, o wielkiej, wstydliwej dla ludzkości, historii niewolnictwa. Przewodnicy mówili o masowym wywożeniu z Goree niewolników, ale tamtejsza infrastruktura tej wstydliwej działalności nie była do tego przystosowana. Prawdopodobnie większymi ośrodkami były inne miejsca, które umożliwiały łatwiejszy dostęp do interioru. Takimi miejscami było ujście rzeki Gambia i rejon miasta Saint-Louis. Jednak Goree stało się miejscem, które najczęściej odwiedzają Afroamerykanie, by złożyć hołd ofiarom niewolnictwa. Miejscem tym, które o tym przypomina jest House of Slaves /fr. La Maison des Esclaves/ zdjęcia 23, 24, 25. Budynek ten został wybudowany w latach 1780-84 i według opowieści przewodnika służył przede wszystkim do "przygotowywania" niewolników do aukcji na targach niewolników. Leczono niewolnikom rany, dokarmiano ich tak, by dostać lepszą cenę, kobiety w ciąży rodziły dzieci, które tak samo były przedmiotem handlu, niepokornych zamykano w specjalnych karcerach o bardzo małych rozmiarach.... Wyjście dla niewolników było tylko jedno, czyli rampa załadowcza na statek. Miejsce to zostało wpisane za na Listę Światowego Dziedzictwa UNESCO, które pozwala poznać koszmar handlu niewolnikami w rejonie Atlantyku.
